Remember what your birthday was like when you were at school? You would wake up, throw on your favorite shirt, and proudly walk down the hallway. You knew that something special was waiting just for YOU whenever you walked through the classroom door. Whether it was a special birthday chair, a treat, or just a song from all of your classmates…birthdays at school were always the BEST!
Fluency and Fitness+ is so excited to announce a new way to make your students feel extra special on their birthday! Our Birthday Games are now LIVE! Here is a little preview of our Birthday games and how to use them!
WHERE CAN YOU FIND BIRTHDAY GAMES?
You can find our Birthday games on your Fluency and Fitness homepage. To search for the Birthday games you can search by:
Activity – Fluency and Fitness
Category – Holidays/Seasonal then click Birthdays
You can also search by keyword “Birthday” in the “Search By Name” box located on the top left of your homepage.
WHEN SHOULD BIRTHDAY GAMES BE USED?
The Birthday games are meant to be used MONTHLY.
Example: Students with August birthdays will have a turn to be the Fluency and Fitness leaders at the end of August. All students with a birthday in September will be the Fluency and Fitness leaders at the end of September, etc.
TIP: Remember the students who have a birthday that happens to fall on a break. You could celebrate June and July birthdays along with May at the end of the school year. You could also include June and July birthdays with the August birthdays.
HOW ARE THE GAMES ORGANIZED?
The birthday games are organized by MONTH and by GRADE. Each game will focus on review activities for the end of that month. Be sure to check that you are in the right game for your grade level so the review for that month is age appropriate.
After the title page, you will see the next slide that says “Birthday Star come on down!” When you see this slide, invite the “birthday stars” for that month to come down to the front of the class. The idea is to make this super exciting for your birthday stars! Whether they come down high-fiving their classmates or get to wear a birthday hat, this is really a time to let them feel like they are the STAR of the game.
In the next slides, you will see directions for the review activity that is coming up (these directions will be read aloud as well) followed by 5-6 skill slides for students to answer.
After the skill slides, you will see a movement activity for students to do! These are especially fun because they are all centered around BIRTHDAYS!
This will repeat until the end of the game and you are finished with that month’s Birthday Game! At the end it will play the Happy Birthday song, and your class can sing Happy Birthday. Be sure to come back the next month to celebrate the next birthday stars!
